LOWER LACKAWANNA COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENTS SUGGESTED OPERATING PROCEDURES

PURPOSE: To provide a suggested, standard and consistent operating guideline to aid Emergency Responders in the discharge of their duties when responding to Brush or Rubbish Type fire situations.

Effective Date: 12/ 2003

Objectives Engine Co.; Brush Fire Or Rubbish Fire

When responding to a brush fire, the engine should never leave the paved roadway or a gravel roadway that leads to a dwelling or a business to go to a wooded area.  Attack Team #1 should utilize the 1" forestry hose to extinguish the fire while others are using brush rakes, shovels, brooms, etc, unless the engine officer requests Indian cans or PW cans.  The first attack team should also try to flank the fire to get to the furthest point to head it off.  The engine crew should also check for extension or any kind of exposure problem.
